11 Plus Mathematics

For you
Mathematics tests measure mathematical ability at a particular stage in a child’s education. Few questions will be mechanical in nature. Some questions will look at knowing facts and procedures. Other questions will gauge whether or not a child can solve problems. The reasoning questions in mathematics require children to apply mathematical skills and knowledge to new situations.

Children need to be reminded that they should start with the questions they can do - and then return to the ones they find more difficult.

For your child
Start with the questions you can do. Return to the ones you find difficult.
If you are asked to show your working out - just show the working out! This is not the time to be too clever. Do exactly what you have been asked to do.
